District Magistrate in Akbarpur

The District Magistrate or DM of Ambedkar Nagar is responsible for the administration in the district and he is ranked next to the division commissioner of Faizabad, so the DM assists the Division Commissioner as a Deputy Commissioner. The city homes the district magistrate office and residence. Shri Vivek, IAS, is the current DM of Ambedkar Nagar. He is assisted by an additional district magistrate –ADM in his responsibilities. The current ADM is Shri Ram Murti Mishra. The DM is responsible for collecting revenue, maintaining law and order through the Superintendent of Police, Shri Pankaj Kumar, enforcing rules and regulation formulated by the state and central government and many more.

District Court of Akbarpur

The Akbarpur district court is responsible for the justice in Ambedkar Nagar as it is the highest court in the district. The district court of Akbarpur comes directly under the control of the High Court of Uttar Pradesh. So the cases from the district court can be reapplied for justice only in the high court. The Akbarpur district court is headed by the district and session. The District court takes up civil cases under code of civil procedure and the judge presiding civil case is called as district judge while the session court takes up criminal cases under code of criminal procedure and the judge presiding over criminal case is called as sessions judge. The district court judge is assisted by the additional district judge and the assistant district judge. The additional district judge is equal in power to that of Akbarpur district court judge. The city also homes the official residence of the District Judge and for the other judicial officers.

Administrative Setup of Akbarpur

The city operates under the Faizabad division of State Administration. The Faizabad district commissioner is responsible for enforcing state and central government rules and regulation in Akbarpur. Ambedkar Nagar is divided into 5 tehsils namely Akbarpur, Alapur, Bhiti, Jalalpur and Tanda. The district tehsils are further divided into nine administrative blocks namely Akbarpur, Katehari, Tanda, Bhiyam, Ramnager, Baskhari, Bhiti, Jahagirgani and Jalalpur. The block code of Akbarpur is 00910. Each block in the city is administered by a block development officer. The Ambedkar Nagar Lok Sabha constituency came to existence in 2009 by the Delimitation Commission of India. Akbarpur is one of the five Vidhan Sabha segments in Ambedkar Nagar district apart from Goshainganj, Katehari, Tanda and Jalalpur. Shri Hari Om Pandey is the current MP of Akbarpur. The city is a municipal board and the Nagar Palika Parishad of Akbarpur forms the locals self government of the city.
